Mykola Burachek

1871 – 1942

Mykola Burachek is a Ukrainian painter, colorist, scenographer, educator, writer, and art historian. He dedicated a large part of his life to acting.

The artist worked in the genre of easel painting (mostly landscape studies). He was fond of working with oils and watercolors. The imprint of Post-Impressionism can be seen in his early works, but later the author transitioned to classical Impressionism. The master's canvases are full of colors, a lyrical mood, and vitality.

He dedicated more than 30 paintings to locations associated with the lives of Taras Shevchenko, Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi, and Anton Chekhov. Burachek was also one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, heading it in its very first year and becoming the acting president of the Academy.

Most famous paintings: "On the Way to Taras's Hill" (1940); "The Tree" (1941), "The Bewitched. The Wide Dnipro Roars and Groans" (1941).
